Discovery is popular early season English apple ripening in late August. It is easy to grow with good disease resistance. This apple is best consumed straight from the tree with a sweet/sharp flavour with a slight strawberry twang. It is an excellent apple for juicing, both alone or as part of a variety blend. It is a seedling of Worcester Pearmain, first found growing in Essex in 1949.
Flowering group C (Early-Mid).
M27 is the most dwarfing of all apple rootstocks, producing a tree which will be about the same size as a person standing with their arms slightly spread out (1.2-1.8m). They can be container grown or spaced 1-1.5 apart in a small garden. They need permanent staking and a little extra care with regards to watering and feeding. They start fruiting after two years and considering their size can bare a good yield of apples.
M27 trees are sold as feathered maidens (1 year trees with branch development) pot grown. As a result they can be supplied all year round, but it is best to collect as the postage costs are much higher. On special request M27 trees can be supplied bareroot and thus posted out. Email for more information.
Tree comes as a maiden whip (1 year tree with no branches). The trees are bareroot, so the tree will arrive with bare roots (without soil) wrapped up ready for planting out or heeling in. Available only in dormant season (November-April).
