An 18th century russet favourite raised by the clerk of Gloucester city at Ashmead House. Connoisseurs love the strong sweet-sharp flavour from its firm white flesh enclosed within a flushed russet coat. Versatile and tasty consumed raw, cooked or as part of a juice blend. A tough disease-resistant dessert apple tree once widely planted, now mostly only cultivated by hobbyists. Best when picked mid-October, and enjoyed December-February.

Pollination group D (mid season)

MM106 rootstock gives a semi-dwarfing tree that will reach 4m in height. It will start fruiting at 3-4 years.

It is a maiden whip tree (1 year tree with no branches). The trees are bareroot, so the tree will arrive with bare roots (without soil) wrapped up ready for planting out or heeling in. Only available in dormant season (November-April).
