The Mother Tree @ Schumacher College
Fruit and nut trees ecologically grown for the orchards of tomorrow.
Established 2017 at Schumacher College, The Mother Tree is part of the college's innovative work on sustainable food systems, incorporating agroforestry and horticulture. Unlike many large scale commercial tree nurseries, our trees are not treated with chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides. We are interested in propagating cultivars that prolong the season of local fruits and nuts, often using interesting old cultivars of trees that we believe have a place in gardens and orchards of today. As we believe everyone should be able to have the opportunity to nurture a tree, we offer apple trees suitable for any sized space (whether that be a container outside your front door, a wall or fence suitable for a trained tree or a bigger garden aspiring to be a future orchard).
The funds raised through tree sales are invested back into the important educational and horticultural work being carried out by Schumacher College.
